Do I have to be a member to hold a Light Party®?

Yes.
If you want to hold a Light Party®, membership is compulsory but it's also FREE!!! Becoming a member simply means you agree to abide by what Light Party® stands for! As a Light Party® member you benefit from the credibility of the Light Party® name, your own event is listed on the website; the ability to interact with other Light Party® hosts through the Light Party® Forums, online resources; regular newsletters and email assistance if required. Light Party® events are a way for us to join together. So come join us - together we can turn October 31st into a celebration of good!

What if I want to hold an event that's a positive alternative to Halloween but I don't want to call it a Light Party®?

Anyone can hold an alternative to Halloween without us - but why go it alone? Registration is FREE and you can benefit from access to Light Party® resources, ideas, printed materials and branding that will make your job easier and link you with others. The general public trusts Light Party® because it is a well branded positive alternative to trick or treating and scary masks and activities.

If we're going to turn October 31 into a positive celebration we'll all have to work together. Using the Light Party® name does not limit your event though - you can have a Light Party® Super Hero Night or a Light Party® Barn dance! You can be as creative as you like! Just make sure it's safe, family oriented and without witches, ghosts or other scary costumes or activities. Remember - a Light Party® Event is a POSITIVE alternative!

Can I share my Light Party® Resource Kit with a friend?

Yes, you can utilise the Light Party® resources any way you wish for your own Light Party®. We still need to know details of each Light Party® though, so if your friend wants to hold their own event, they must register as a Light Party® Member so we can help them more effectively.

What if I join with another group to hold a Light Party®. Do we all have to register?

For smaller churches. schools or groups, it's a great idea to pool resources and hold one Light Party® together. You only have to fill in the registration form ONCE, but list all the groups involved so we know.

What if I don't want my Light Party® to be advertised?

No problem! Listing your Light Party® on the Light Party® website is recommended but not compulsory. The whole idea of the Light Party® is to provide a community event, so the community should really know about it. If you have concerns about space and safety issues, tickets may be a good idea. In any case, you have the option in the Members section to choose whether or not to list your Light Party® on the website.

Do I have to have a Light Party® on October 31 or can I have it on another day?

No, we do not require this, however in order to be a positive alternative to trick or treating on Halloween, your Light Party® should preferably be on October 31.

You guys are just kill-joys. There's nothing wrong with Halloween. It's just a bit of harmless fun.

That's not a question - it's your opinion, and you are welcome to have it. Just the same as tens of thousands of caring parents, teachers, church leaders and community groups have a different opinion and have done something positive for their community. Light Party® people respect your right to conduct yourself how you wish on October 31st, but they want to provide a positive alternative to Halloween. Light Party® events don't have a scare-factor with door-to-door "reward on demand" activities, glorifying death, witches, using scary masks or other such things. In fact many children and parents report that they have MORE fun at a Light Party® event than they did going door-to-door or celebrating Halloween!

What if I don't want to be a Light Party® Member this year?

No problem! You may hold a Light Party® at any time of your choosing, however using the Light Party® name every year (in conjunction with other groups) will build name recognition in the community over time, which will benefit you and others holding Light Party® Events. If you have a Light Party® one year and something else the next year, guests won't know what to expect!

Oops! We've used the Light Party name without realising that it was actually a Trade Mark. We just thought that Light Party was a generic term for a Halloween alternative.

Oh dear! The easiest way to fix the problem is to just register your Light Party® here. Then just use the correct Light Party logo from now on. A courtesy email to explaining your situation would be much appreciated. (We're nice people!) If you do not want to Register your Light Party® event then you must change the name of your event to other than something that uses the Light Party® name.

Why are you so hard about unauthorised use of the Light Party® name?

The Light Party Rules are simple, widely accepted and are non-obtrusive. The registration process is simple and free. There is no reason why any legitimate church or community group would have any problem registering properly. Every year, tens of thousands of people are influenced positively by Light Party® events spread across the globe (not all events are listed on the Light Party map). Random Light Party logos, and unauthorised use of the Light Party® name dilutes the value of like-minded people joining each other around the world to create something we can all be proud of. Trade Marking the Light Party® brand and enforcing compliance protects the investment that many people and churches already have in the Light Party phenomenon.
