Halloween alternative growing in popularity overseas
Light Party Inc., a Christian organisation that encourages and supports groups to run a positive alternative to trick or treating at Halloween, is becoming more and more popular overseas. There are currently 20 different countries who have hosted a Light Party Event over the last 7 years since the Light Party website was set up.
Wendy Reid, creator of the original Light Party™ says that the website is helpful for smaller churches who can make use of the resources when they register their event and Facebook is a great way for organisers to share experiences.
"The Light Party™ brand has built up a great following and is now a credible alternative to trick or treating at Halloween," says Wendy. "We're always hopeful that groups will register their Light Party™ event so we can see where they are all held on October 31."
With just over two weeks to go before October 3, Light Party Inc. has nearly 100 new organisations hosting a Light Party™ event this year. While many Light Party™ events are held in New Zealand, this year more churches and groups have registered in the UK.
"It's great to see that Great Britain has really caught on to how positive a Light Party™ can be. To date, over 400 different churches from England, Scotland and Ireland have hosted a Light Party, and that is increasing each year. In fact, the UK now has more churches hosting a Light Party than NZ does! We hope that community groups and churches all over the world continue to catch the vision to turn October 31 into a celebration of good things."
Wendy has found that many parents are not happy about the negative influence and practices of Halloween. Some of them are actively looking for a positive alternative, and many are relieved when their local church or group provides a safe, fun place for children to bring their friends and family.
"Traditions and celebrations are important," she says. "Communities need opportunities to connect in a positive way. Light Party™ is all about celebration."
Light Party Inc provides resources, support, networking, branding and marketing for groups that are Light Party Members. Light Party Members are responsible for and conduct their own Light Party™ Events and use the Light Party name and resources as they wish.
Registration is online at www.lightparty.org.nz.

Another year makes twelve!
Sunday 30 September 2012

Hi everyone
It's hard to believe that this is the 12th year that Light Party Events have been held. We started in New Zealand, and now we have Light Party events in many countries around the world. The aim of hosting a Light Party is to bring communities together in a positive way on October 31. Dress ups and games are so much more fun when they are held in the context of a safe, family event where everyone can join in and celebrate good things.
If you are having a Light Party and haven't registered on the Light Party website yet, PLEASE do it now.
You can register at www.lightparty.org/register-your-event.
It's a great way for us to know where parties are being held and for you to access any resources that might be helpful. It's also a way for your location to be made known to those who are looking. PLEASE don't forget to register. Spread the word to others who might be interested.
We also have a Facebook page, so if you want to post comments or photos we'd love to hear from you.
All the best for your Light Party Event if you're having one this year...
and if you're not - it's not too late to organise one.
God is with you...
from all the team at Light Party.

Treats without Tricks on Oct 31
There IS an alternative to trick-or-treating on Halloween and that is called the Light Party.
Light Party events are spreading across the world to meet the need for a positive, family oriented way to connect with the community.
2012 marks the 12th year in a row that many churches across Auckland have hosted successful events for their communities on October 31, instead of having to deal with the usual Halloween celebrations of trick or treating and scary costumes.
Founder, Wendy Reid says Light Party Events respond to a growing need in communities for connection and safety.
"Parents today are looking for 'safe' activities for their children and many are concerned about the negative connotations of Halloween and trick-or-treating," she says. "Light Parties provide a positive, safe environment; they emphasise positive connection; goodwill, family and caring for one another - values that children need. It's a chance for the church to serve the community, and for the community to get to know one another."
Hundreds of churches around New Zealand as well as just as many overseas (mostly the UK) will be hosting a 'Light Party' on October 31. Many churches have combined with others to share resources and cater for their community.
"The Light Party website has been set up to help first time event planners with ideas and activities that have worked for others. It's also a way that we can get an idea of how many Light Party events there are, and where they are in the world," says Mrs Reid. "We also have a facebook page so that people involved in Light Party Events can share their experiences and connect with others hosting or attending a Light Party."

An open letter to Church denominational leaders in the United Kingdom . . .
June 14, 2010
Dear friends,
We need your help now, please!!!!
Would you please help us by reminding your churches that if they are holding a Light Party® as a Halloween alternative, then they MUST register online with us and use the correct Light Party® logo.
Unfortunately it seems that many churches in the UK appear unaware that Light Party® is a brand Trade Marked internationally.
Your help in this matter is greatly appreciated. Registration is free and easy online at www.lightparty.org and helps protect the enormous investment that many churches around the world have made in building Light Party® to be something we can all be proud of.
We have always contacted individual churches who have failed to register as we have come across them and have sought their co-operation one-by-one. Unfortunately we believe that the problem in 2009 with churches in the UK failing to register correctly was chronic and that our problem is now too big for us to handle one by one. We are hoping that with your help we may not need to take further action nor will their be any need to generate any unwelcome negative publicity.
Would you kindly advise us when you have shared this message with your churches?
Thanking you
Dennis A. Smith
